The recipe was created in honour of Our Lady of Atalaia by the Alcochete boatmen after being rescued from a storm on the high seas. The aroma and flavour of cinnamon stand out in these fogaças, which may have a more or less moist interior, depending on how they are made, but always maintaining the delicious, slightly crunchy outer layer.
